Khawla Mattar was appointed as the new director of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Egypt, effective the beginning of the month, according to a statement. Hailing from Bahrain, Mattar previously held the position of Senior Specialist on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work with the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Beirut, promoting the basic international standards under the auspices of the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. With a PhD in the Sociology of the Media from Durham University in the United Kingdom and extensive experience as a journalist, she worked as the editor-in-chief for Al-Waqt Daily and before that she served as Regional Information Officer for ILO in Beirut. /p
