The US embassy in Cairo celebrated Earth Day at Al Azhar Park on April 20. Working with USAID and with Egyptian NGO partners, such as Friends of the Environment and Development Association (FEDA) and Community and Institutional Development Association (CID), the celebration included approximately 100 middle school-aged children: 50 Cairo American College children and 50 Egyptian school children from the Al-Marg, Gamaliya, and other areas. Activities included distribution of T-shirts, a presentation on the history of Al Azhar Park, and educational programs on environmental awareness. The children will also plant gardens under the guidance of the horticultural staff of Al Azhar Park to mark this day./p
