Colombian film week kicks off

The Embassy of Colombia in Cairo, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, is inaugurating the Colombian Film Week at Cairo Opera House's Artistic Creation Center tonight. The mini-festival is showcasing four of the most important Colombian films of the last two decades that reflect different facets of modern Colombian society.
All films will be screened at 7 pm and are accompanied by English subtitles.
December 15
The Ambassador of India

Synopsis: A comedy that sees the life of an unemployed man from a small province go haywire when the authorities of a Colombian city confuse him with the Ambassador of India.

Confessions of Laura
Jaime Osorio, 1991
Synopsis: The rioting that erupted in 1948 following the assassination of a popular Colombian presidential candidate forms the background for this melodrama. Santiago and his wife Josefina have been confined to their Bogota apartment by the chaos in the streets. To pass the time, and take her mind off the events outside, Josefina bakes a birthday cake for Laura, a single woman living in an apartment across the street.

Synopsis: This charming film tells the story of a young man, who in an attempt to solve and understand the circumstances surrounding his parents' death, returns to their old village. He soon discovers a bigger political context for this mystery.

Synopsis: This comedy centers on a Colombian family, residing in a popular neighborhood in Bogotá, as they acquire their first automobile, which is presumably not new or luxurious.
