Prospective event to attract participants from Europe and the Mediterranean
CAIRO: The Arts Center at Bibliotheca Alexandria, in coordination with the International Association for Creation and Training (I-ACT), is getting ready for the fourth Creative Forum for Independent Theater Groups in Europe and the Mediterranean. The forum takes place in Alexandria, a place where different cultures come together, and will run from February 1-10.
The forum is a stage for contemporary theater, as well as being an implementation of the "anti-festival concept, which means letting creativity take over formality. It is also a place for independent theater groups to perform their different artistic, creative and sociopolitical work. The forum aims to build cooperative performances between artists from different generations, cultures and backgrounds, thus inviting an exchange of information, experience, education and training.
The team working on the first forum in December 2003 came up with the idea and founded I-ACT, an international association working on development, training, organizing artistic forums, theater productions and artistic exchange. The association has been trying to revive the artistic scene in Alexandria, working with private, governmental and foreign art centers, as well as encouraging independent theater groups.
The forum is inviting applications for the publication program Citizens/Expatriates: The Duality of Homeland and Expatriation. The program aims at publishing Arabic theatrical writings by Arab immigrants from the first or second generation as well as inviting everyone to attend the Creative Forum and to participate in its different arts and cultural activities.
Requirements for application are the writer's CV with one photo and a theatrical writing in Arabic. All applications are to be sent to [email protected] by October 30, 2006. For more information about the first, second and third editions of the forum, visit www.iact-eg.org under projects: creative forum.
