Siemens signs contract for Children s Cancer Hospital
CAIRO: Medical solutions for Egypt s health care system were discussed at Siemens First Annual Medical Solutions Awareness Day held Sunday in Giza.
Children in school must be the first priority in health insurance, said Mohammed El Wetidy, senior vice president and head of medical solutions at Siemens Egypt, and improving doctors performance will lead to improvements in health care.
Siemens Egypt organized the event to raise awareness of health care in Egypt and to inform ... about the latest technological developments in health care, according to El Wetidy.
Siemens journalists awareness day is practical training designed for industry-specific journalists, Hisham Abdou, communications officer at Siemens Egypt told The Daily Star Egypt.
Abdou added: The aim of today s training is to further enhance journalists knowledge about technological developments within the medical solutions' field as well as generate an open discussion about several health-related matters which might be of interest to theattendees such as technology oriented medical insurance systems in Egypt.
The Medical Solutions branch of Siemens Egypt signed a contract with the Children s Cancer Hospital Foundation (CCHF) to supply and install the medical equipment for the first pediatric oncology facility in the region as well train those who will use it.
The first batch of CCHF equipment for the hospital was shipped this April - which, along with X-ray equipment already provided, means the whole Radiology Department of the hospital is now complete. This means that the equipment for the soft opening of the hospital is now available.
Every organization has its area of expertise. We as Siemens spend 5 billion euros on this type of machinery, Mohamed El Mehdi, CEO of Siemens Egypt said, we can train the people who implement and work this machinery.
Both Siemens executives pointed out that the military is advanced in the area of health care compared to civil health services providers.
Things must be taken step by step, we must analyze why the military institution is ahead of civil services, El Wetidy said.
Mehdi said, The medical system for the army works for a select sector of the population.
El Wetidy also stressed the importance of sufficiently motivating and educating doctors and engineers in the health sector which will improve the utilization of medical solutions on offer and positively impact Egypt s health care system.
Education of doctors and engineers is not at the level to do what they need to do, but when they are forced into a situation, they rise to it, he said.
El Wetidy added we must take care of the doctors, but also have a system which measures their performance. A doctor who is trying to just keep his job will not perform.
Siemens Medical Solutions is one of the world s largest suppliers to the health care industry, reporting sales of 8.32 billion euros and a gross profit of 1.06 billion euros in 2006.
