CAIRO: In an effort to strengthen ties with the Far East, the Minister of Petroleum met with a Japanese delegation to discuss ways the two countries can cooperate in the oil, gas and petrochemicals sectors, as well as implementing petroleum projects. After a meeting with Yorihiko Kojima, president of the Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation, Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmy said, "Mitsubishi Corporation's delegation to Egypt comes in the framework of the Japanese company's interest in investing in Egypt, as well as following up the progress achieved by the petroleum industry. The ministry told Daily News Egypt that the delegation's visit to Egypt comes in light of various attractive investment opportunities as well as a result of the success achieved by Japanese companies currently working in Egypt. The meeting is also in line with the ministry's strategy to attract and diversify investments, expertise and global technology, the ministry said. "There are promising domains in the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries, representing an appropriate market for attracting investments, Kojima said. A partnership between a Japanese company and Tharwa Petroleum Company to cooperate in oil exploration in Egypt and abroad was also discussed. The minister said a work group will be created with representatives from both sides. Last week, the minister held talks with a delegation of representatives from Chinese companies specializing in petrochemicals and refining activities.
