Five star treatment for your pet
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 07 - 2009

THe pleasures of owning a pet can often be dampened by the challenges of finding good veterinary care, training, pet food and accessories.
With the scarcity of such places in Egypt, The International Veterinary Hospital and Pet Motel is one of the best options available for any pet owner in town.
Located 2 kilometers from Carrefour on the ring road, the hospital offers veterinary services including examination, surgeries and pregnancy tests. It also provides accommodation administrated delivered by professional, experienced staff.
"I had been working in this field for 30 years in a private clinic in Maadi and I was thinking of how to establish a bigger and better equipped place that offers comprehensive veterinary services, said Abdel Hay Emam, a pet surgeon and manager of the Hospital and Pet Motel.
"People are becoming more aware of the importance of veterinary follow up and more people are searching for consultancy, he added
The hospital houses three clinics, an operation room, an X-ray room and a laboratory offering vaccine certification, routine vaccination programs, semen evaluation, a fleas and ticks control program, microchips implanting, and grooming services, amongst others.
Although only operating partially, the hospital is scheduled to be fully functional in three to four weeks; serving all kinds of pets from cats, dogs and birds to crocodiles and chimpanzees. It is open 24 hours a day to cater to emergency cases.
The motel offers accommodation for cats and dogs that need around-the-clock medical observation. It also offers boarding services for traveling pet owners.
"During my work, people asked me if they can leave their pets with me while they were traveling, and in some medical cases we needed to give the animal drug doses every four or five hours, but there was no sufficient place for this, so I decided to establish this motel, Emam said.
There are also recreational facilities: a 1,000 square-meter playground, running track and a swimming pool for dogs which Emam said are important to reduce the stress that dogs suffers from while away from their owners.
The hospital is planning to offer training for dogs on obedience, home protection and guarding, urination in sand, swimming, fitness, mountain climbing, ladder climbing, and weight pulling.
"Many new pet owners don't know how to deal with their pets so we decided to offer this service to help them train their dog on how and when to be friendly and when to be aggressive, Emam said
"Our staff encompasses specialized experts each in their own field like eye surgeons, dermatologists and experienced trainers from the police academy and they are well known for their competence. This is what makes us unique, he added
The hospital also offers a dogs' day use that includes general check up, swimming pool, grooming, training session, gym exercises, fleas and ticks control and they offer a door to door service where dogs can be picked up and dropped off later.
A pet shop is also affiliated with the hospital where food and accessories can be purchased.
Emam plans to use the hospital for the training of fresh grad veterinarians, who otherwise won't find such opportunity to gain the necessary experience in their field.
