Mövenpick Aswan gets a Nubian touch
Published in Daily News Egypt on 02 - 06 - 2008

CAIRO: In the summer of 2004, Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts announced the take over of a resort on Elephantine Island near Aswan. The property then underwent a complete revamp and was dubbed Mövenpick Resort Aswan, where the contemporary design is punctuated with elements of Nubian style.
"The newly renovated Mövenpick Resort Aswan reflects the high quality standards with which we intend to spoil our guests here in Egypt, says Josef Kufer, senior vice president Africa Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, in a press statement.
"With its fantastic location the resort is ideally suited to be combined with Nile cruises or a visit to the many sites in and around Aswan, he added.
The hotel is characterized by warm, bright color tones, spacious interiors as well as a contemporary and locally influenced design. All the rooms, public areas and gardens have been renovated. The hotel now also features a new Kids' Club and a large infinity pool.
With the work completed, the Mövenpick Resort Aswan now offers 234 rooms, including 38 duplex junior suites and eight double villas.
Culinary treats await the guests at the main restaurant Orangerie and in the Italian restaurant La Perla. The Panorama Bar on the 14th floor of the Aswan Tower offers breathtaking views of the Nile. There is also a poolside restaurant and bar as well as a lobby lounge.
Guests can chose from a number of excursions - including sailing trips on-board typical feluccas - and leisure activities including billiards, table tennis and massages. A meeting room for a maximum of 120 delegates is available for conferences and banquets.
"The gardens and the different terraces are ideal for celebrating all kinds of occasions outdoors, says Urs Umbricht, general manager of Mövenpick Resort Aswan.
The hotel is set to undergo further expansion, which will add 160 rooms, more restaurants and bars as well as a new conference center. The project, which is due to be completed by 2010, is taking place north of the existing hotel premises, and will not disturb guests in any way.
