A muse me
Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 03 - 2007

In Greek mythology, Muse is one of the nine daughters of Zeus. As a goddess, Muse was famous for inspiring poets, artists, and intellectuals. Some regard the as the genius characteristic of an artist.
After arguing over hundreds of names Dina Abaza and Amr Emam finally agreed on Muse, the name of the goddess of inspiration, as the name of their new furniture shop. Their contemporary style collection just opened its doors, on the second floor of 40b Mohammed Mazhar Street in Zamalek, targeting anyone who wants to add a trendy touch to their home at reasonable prices.
"Beauty is not only in aesthetics, it's comfort and we are aware of that. In everyone's wardrobe there is a pair of pants that you wear all the time, not because it's the best but it's the most comfy, said Abaza. We keep that in mind when choosing our furniture.
Muse carries a wide variety of home accessories. This season, their collection focuses on leather couches, coffee tables, bars, funky chairs and extras like sculptures, paintings, lights and water fixtures. This focus creates a general theme of Zen which greets each visitor at the door and walks them through each piece.
Zen is from the Buddhist tradition of meditation. Translated into interiors, it is the urge to simplify and create an atmosphere that projects inner calm and harmony.
Every season they plan on changing the theme depending on the demand; Zen is trendy right now.
"Our things are from Italy, Spain, China and Japan. We are getting more from Malaysia and Vietnam, said Abaza. But we are not stuck. We bring what we like it doesn't matter where it's from.
The colours at the display are all beiges and browns, with splashes of red. However, clients are not limited to what is being shown; they can order any color they please.
In addition, you can buy as many pieces of a set as you like you are not obliged to buy the entire set.
The art work is various and different. A sculpture of angels' wings, or little statues of naughty looking Buddha's would be a charming addition to any living room.
They also put on display some modern art from local artists like Bakhoum and Anna.
Abaza advises people should not be afraid to mix styles as long as they are harmonious together. "The most important thing is identity; anyone can put modern things together, she said, When you go out all the girls look the same, all fashionable. The one that stands out is the one who did something different like a vintage bag or ethnic belt. Use that same concept with your house.
Designing furniture has been Abaza s passion for quite sometime. The striking woman is known for her unique style. She also owns "Art Zone an accessory store in Zamalek.
Emam, her partner, is not within his own fair for fashion and style. His previous creative endevdors include the children's clothes store Timanad and interior design for several houses and boats.
