Brotherhood urges Egyptians to join April 6 strike
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 04 - 2009

CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) called on Egyptians to participate in the April 6 strike and "express their anger, the group said in a press statement.
"The Muslim Brotherhood is calling on the Egyptian people to express their anger and protest in the coming April 6 . against the government's policies and practices that wasted the country's wealth and compromised its national security, taking away its leadership position in the region, the statement read.
The statement however indicated that the strike should be peaceful and should respect the constitution as well as public and private property, money and public figures.
This strike is "a fundamental right of Egyptians granted to them by the Egyptian constitution, said the MB.
Journalists from the Brotherhood's newspaper Afaq Arabia, which was shut down three years ago, also released a statement confirming their participation in the strike.
The journalists plan on protesting in front of the Journalists' Syndicate to call for their rights that were "lost after the government closed down the paper.
Mahmoud Ezzat, the Brotherhood's secretary general, told Daily News Egypt that the group is always keen on joining "public forces and taking a stand with them.
"That is why we agreed to join this protest but on the conditions we stated [in the statement], Ezzat added.
The group will not organize any individual protests, he said, but will join the general strike.
"Our students will be the ones organizing sit-ins and peaceful strikes along with the April 6 youth movement, Ezzat said.
