PA to discuss seven investigation requests Sunday
Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 12 - 2008

CAIRO: Out of the 76 investigation requests filed to the PA by independent, Muslim Brotherhood and opposition MPs last month, seven are set to be discussed on Sunday, according to MP Mohamed Khalil Kwaitah.
Kwaitah, who is affiliated with the National Democratic Party (NDP), says that the seven investigation requests revolve around the process of wheat importation.
Last month, the local press published documents indicating that some of the imported wheat from Ukraine and Russia is unfit for human consumption.
The lack of availability of some basic commodities at fair prices will also be discussed in the PA's Sunday session, Kwaitah said.
There are around 76 investigation requests set to be discussed during this parliamentary session.
Akram Al-Shaer, a Muslim Brotherhood MP, filed six of those requests last month, varying from investigations into a plant in Port Said that allegedly disposes of chemical waste in underprivileged areas to an inquest into a Social Fund for Development project, which Al-Shaer said "failed to reach its objectives.
He also accused some NDP members of embezzling money granted to the Ministry of Agriculture by the International Monetary Fund for land reclamation projects.
Other requests filed by MPs tackled issues such as the deterioration of the education system, the spread of corruption, price hikes, road conditions and a transportation system that leads to an increasing number of accidents.
