CAIRO: Security forces arrested 50 students from Ain Shams University belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Saturday. The students were spending the day on the beach in the North Coast city of Agamy during a trip organized by the university. Mohamed Habib, the Brotherhood's deputy leader, confirmed the news, adding that it is no surprise to him, and that it is part of "the government's ever-lasting campaign to eliminate the Muslim Brotherhood. "The government is following the youngsters affiliated with the [MB] and arresting them to end any potential future for the group, Habib said. Gamal Eid, executive director for the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, told The Daily Star Egypt that by taking this action, the government is sending a message to the MB that they will "continue arresting its members until the group ends its activities. Egyptian security forces usually arrest members in groups so that they can "pick whoever they think is most active, detain that person and release the rest, Eid said. Eid says those arrests are illegal, but that "the security forces are used to disregarding the law. Who is to blame and condemn them? Habib clarified that the students are still in custody, but have not yet been transferred to the prosecutor's office.
