CAIRO: State Security Prosecution renewed the detention order of Muslim Brotherhood Ashraf Abdel Ghaffar, deputy secretary general of the Arab Doctors' Syndicate. Abdel Ghaffar, along with eight other Brotherhood leaders, was arrested earlier this month in the recent crackdown on the group, on charges of belonging to an illegal group, money laundering and terrorism. Secretary General of the Arab Doctors' Union Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh was also among the detainees. However, in an official statement, the group said that Osama Soliman, one of the detainees, is not affiliated with the group and that it is a case of mistaken identity. "There has been a misunderstanding, the statement read, "the recently detained Osama Soliman is not with the group, there is another Osama Soliman, an engineer, who is one of the group's deputy leaders in Beheira and who has been detained by security officials for two months. The statement added that although the recently detained Soliman is married to one of the group's member's daughters, he is in no way affiliated with the group. He is also the owner of a foreign exchange service and was accused of money laundering operations with members of the group abroad to finance the group in Cairo. "Egyptian security officials received a memo from the money laundering and terrorism funding unit at the Central Bank that indicated that a sum of ?2.7 million was transferred from Lebanon to Soliman's bank account on successive days, according to the prosecutor's statement released earlier this month. In related news, the Brotherhood announced that the Beheira prosecution office also renewed the detention period of 17 Brotherhood members from the governorate for 15 more days.
