An American man was taken to a local Cairo hospital on Thursday afternoon after a young man stabbed him in the neck near the American Embassy, officials in Egypt confirmed. Reports identified the man as Christopher Stone, a fellow at the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). ARCE later confirmed his identity. The academic was attacked outside the embassy at around noon local time, according to US Embassy officials. Local reports mentioned the two men had been engaging in a verbal argument moments before Stone was stabbed. The suspect couldn't flee heavy presence around the embassy and was caught shortly after the assault. The Egyptian prosecutor's office said Thursday that the suspect is to face charges of attempted murder. Stone, who was bleeding heavily, was rushed to the near by Qasr al-Aini hospital. Locals reported that he was in stable enough condition to file a police report, although hospital officials did not comment on his condition. The prosecutor's office added that Stone was able to tell them that the purpose of his visit to the embassy was to finish paperwork for his wife when the young man aggressively asked him about his nationality.
