CAIRO: An Egyptian court dismissed on Saturday a lawsuit filed against satellite channel CBC to suspend its license for airing the popular political satirist show, “Al-Bernameg” (The Program). The lawsuit, filed by an Islamist lawyer, claimed that the channel “violates the principles of satellite broadcasting which obligates presenters not to negatively impact social peace, national unity or morals." The show, hosted by prominent satirist Bassem Youssef, will continue to be aired as the Administrative court rejected the case that accused Youssef's show of ridiculing the public and violating the social code of conduct. The court dismissed the case on grounds that the plaintiff does not have the legal capacity to press charges. Several lawsuits had been filed against Youssef to ban his weekly show for insulting the president and defaming religion. Youssef was released on L.E. 15,000 bail after the prosecutor general had ordered his arrest on account of these lawsuits. BN
