CAIRO: The Egyptian Popular Current rejected on Wednesday the forensic report that states that Mohamed Al- Gendi was killed in a car crash and was not tortured to death by police. The Current said that it will make an appeal against the falsified autopsy report. In a statement it issued on Wednesday, the Current denounced the forensic report, saying, “The task of forensics is only to prove injuries in a professional manner, not to mention the causes of death, which falls within the jurisprudence of the prosecution and the criminal investigations authorities.” The statement added that a group of neutral medical specialists summoned by the Current to check on Gendi before his death confirmed that he was subjected to attempts of hanging and electrocution. The medical report ordered by the Current showed that the victim was hit on the head by a sharp tool and had parts of his body ironed, which are all injuries that could not have been caused as a result of a car accident. The Current also pointed to the testimonies of eyewitnesses which confirm that Gendi was subjected to “the harshest kinds of torture at the hands of security personnel during his detention in the Central Security camp.” Meanwhile, the Assistant Chief of the Forensics, Emad Al-Dib, confirmed on Tuesday that the death of Gendi was caused by a car accident, saying that the autopsy does not show any signs of torture as claimed by the media. On the other hand, the Popular Current says, “The Minister of Justice said that the cause of death was a car accident, he said so two days before the final report was issued, which confirms that the forensic report was prepared in advance.” The statement added, “We are facing a new case of Khaled Said, we are standing before the same perpetrators, the same repressive policies and the same powers of investigation which are not independent from the security services. Before, they tried to prove that Khaled Said died of suffocation and was not subjected to torture.” BN
