CAIRO: The body of police torture victim Saad Saed Saad, a 26-year-old accountant, was moved from a Giza police station to Zeinhoum morgue after tens of people gathered outside the station demanding the body be released. Saad died earlier on Friday after being subjected to torture by police officers. The Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture confirmed the news. Local reports quoted the victim's father on the events that took place. Mr. Saad said his son was arrested from his residency in the Moneeb area in Cairo, following a fight in which a number of “thugs” took refuge on the rooftop of the victim's building. The father said both he and his son were beaten and abused prior to his son's arrest at the hands of police officer Hisham Abdel Gawad at Giza police station. Saad was badly injured and the prosecutor recommended he receive medical assistance, but police decided against it. They refused to call a doctor to help Saad, which led to his death earlier on Friday. The investigation is to continue Saturday after the coroner's report is finished and the young man is buried.
