RAMALLAH: Around 7:30 pm on Wednesday night a ceasefire to the ongoing Israeli-Gaza conflict was announced during US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to Egypt. The truce is set to begin at 9:00 pm. Clinton said that the United States “welcomed" the ceasefire and praised the newly-elected Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt as moderate force for peace. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr announced the ceasefire. Media sources report that the ceasefire will go ahead without meeting Hamas's precondition that Israel lift the ongoing blockade on the Gaza Strip. Journalists and organizations in Gaza say that Israeli air raids have yet to cease. Several government and media buildings across the strip were hit and damaged in airstrikes on Wednesday. The Palestinian death toll for the day alone sits at 22 at the time of reporting. The details of the complete details of the agreement have yet to be announced. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Defense Minister Ehud Barak will give a press conference in Jerusalem at 8:30 pm.
