CAIRO: After having assigned 40 prosecutors from Assiut to investigate the train and bus catastrophic accident that left at least 50 children dead and another 18 injured, prosecutors began examining the crash scene that was reported to be over a kilometer long. The investigation found that train number 165 coming from Cairo to Assiut in southern Egypt, crashed with a school bus that was crossing the railway and collided with it in the middle of the bus, killing 50 young students. The injured gave statements to the prosecutors, recalling that the school bus driver found the railway road open so he decided to cross, but moments later the train crashed into them, al-Watan newspaper reported. The train pushed the bus for about a kilometer, destroying and crumbling the school bus. The remains of the elementary students were found on the front of the train and the wheels in what witnesses described as horrifying. The bus driver was also killed in the crash. According to the report, no bodies were intact, and the heads, hands and broken legs of the students were found under the first carriage of the train and inside its wheels. Some of the locals found body parts scattered around the crash site. The prosecution began questioning the crossing point worker, who was responsible for closing the railway road as the train approached, but allegedly failed to do so. The investigation found that the man was sleeping in his station by the railway and didn't close the road 10 minutes before the train's arrival. The worker of the previous station was responsible for communicating with the next station that the train was on its way. A delegation of engineering professors was assigned to look into the crash and present a report to the general prosecution.
