RAMALLAH: Israeli media reported that Egypt is presently brokering a truce between Israel and armed Gazans in the latest round of fighting. Since Saturday, over 100 rockets have been fired from Gaza into southern Israel, inflicting at least four injuries. Israeli warplanes launched nine airstrikes across the narrow Gaza Strip, killing at least six Palestinians. The latest round of fighting began after Gazan militants shot an anti-tank missile at an Israeli military jeep near the border in northern Gaza. The armed wing of Hamas and the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) both claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was in response to the IDF's firing on and killing a child in Gaza on Thursday. Israeli responded by shooting tank fire at a mourning tent in Gaza City, killing four and injuring at least 26. On Sunday, in a weekly cabinet meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu threatened to “intensify" Israel's response. Islamic Jihad, a separate militant faction in Gaza, released a statement rejecting a truce with Israel, Ma'an News Agency said. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also denies agreeing an Egyptian-negotiated truce and called on all Palestinians to respond to Israel's attacks on civilians.
