MANILA: Google is hoping that the first “Geek Girl” meet-up in the Philippines capital of Manila next week will be a boost for female technology. With the field largely dominated by men, Google believes that by hosting the event they can spark interest and awareness of the impact women in the IT field can have on the sector. The meet-up will take place on October 16. According to Google, the aim is to bring liked-mind women “to meet and great and discuss all things tech.” The “Geek Girl” will also be a way for technological advances to be discussed. “The event will be a great venue to bring together women who are passionate about technology in a traditionally male-dominated field. This is also a part of Google and the Google Developer Group's commitment to promote diversity and encourage women to excel in technology,” said Google in a press release. “We will be joined by strong women in tech, including lady Googlers Merci Niebres, Janet Yoon, and Aileen Apolo, as well as Minette Navarette, President of Kickstart Ventures.”
