Brazil fans still enraged over Argentina “insult”
Published in Bikya Masr on 09 - 10 - 2012

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil fans remain livid over the Argentina's “friendly farce” as it has been dubbed that saw a friendly match between the two football giants canceled over the weekend after the rural stadium the two sides were to face-off in had inadequate infrastructure.
For Felipe, a 22-year-old Brazilian here in Rio, and his friends the decision was “insulting to all Brazilians.”
He told Bikyamasr.com that “Argentina should be ashamed of what they have done and it just shows you they were out to make Brazil look like idiots, but we know who the idiots are.”
Even Brazil coach Mano Menezes has agreed with most of the country, calling the moves by Argentina, which saw the match canceled, insulting.
The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) said that the countries had agreed to make a new attempt to play the match, which was called off after the teams had taken the field and lined up for the anthems.
Conmebol, however, said the date and venue of a future meeting have yet to be decided.
Felipe said that was “just too much to take and I am still in shock and angry over what happened, not to mention the fact that it shows how scared Argentina is of Brazil these days.”
“I haven't experienced anything like this for a long time, the last time was probably with a junior match in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul (state),' Menezes told the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper.
“Football's image has been damaged…the supporters are the most important part of the game and they were disrespected by the Argentine Football Association's decision to take the game to a stadium which didn't offer conditions for a game of this standard.
“It's not right to submit the visiting team to a situation like this and, obviously, you shouldn't subject the fans to waiting for a game that never happened,” the coach added.
For Felipe and millions of Brazilians the Argentina action has been seen as a slap in the face and one that undoubtedly will not be forgotten for the near future.
“We can't wait until they come to our country. That will be fun,” he said.
