LONDON: As one of the most diverse cities on the planet, London has a plethora of cultural activities, but for visitors to Malaysia Week 2012 in the UK capital, surprisingly little is know of Malaysia in Southeast Asia. “I hadn't even known it was in Southeast Asia. I thought it was near Nepal and India,” one visitor told Bikyamasr.com as they ventured through the new experience at London's South Bank that aims to boost knowledge about Malaysia, its culture, and ultimately get visitors to travel to the country. The event showcased the diversity of Malaysia, its rainforests, its people and its food. For Londoners, it was an opportunity to become acquainted with the country between the known international destination Thailand and the small city-state Singapore. A country once occupied by the UK, for many, it was a chance to remember a trip to the region many years before. “We actually went to Malaysia a long time ago, in the 1980s and it seems from this how the country has changed dramatically,” said George as he perused the foods on offering. “I still love to get satay and that kind of food whenever we are able,” he admitted. Malaysia Week 2012 is an event “to showcase the country's vibrant culture and traditions and held in London for the fourth time,” organizers said of the event that kicked off in London on Saturday. With Kuala Lumpur looking to boost tourism from across the globe, it is a chance to develop an understanding of the Southeast Asian country and show the numerous options that travelers can have in the country.
