Singapore residents angry over Japanese company porn film
Published in Bikya Masr on 31 - 08 - 2012

SINGAPORE: A Japanese company filmed an adult film in Singapore recently, sparking outrage among residents in the Southeast Asian city-state who say the film could be misconstrued as a tourism promotion video.
According to reports online, the Japanese company, which was not named, filmed the adult film to resemble a tourism promotion video in order to, what a blurb on AsiaOne.com said was to entice “unsuspecting viewers.”
“I am simply shocked that this kind of thing continues to have a place in society and that they would go to such lengths to make it look like a tourism video,” said graphic designer Yi Xian. The 29-year-old woman told Bikyamasr.com that Singapore “already is facing so much controversy over sex scandals that it just seems that it is poor of taste.”
The 2 hour and 40 minute long film shows a Japanese couple taking their holiday in Singapore.
The couple is then shown having sex in numerous positions in their hotel room with Singapore's CBD skyline in the background.
For many in the country, however, they are now searching for the film to watch it, showing a different side to the city. Many residents said that it is worrisome that so many young men are interested in the film.
“I am very concerned over how this is being received in the city because we have had a difficult time dealing with sex and scandal in recent months and then this film puts it into a new position,” said a Singapore government official working in the Prime Minister's office.
Online, links of the film are now going across the board, with numerous young people reportedly watching the film.
At one Internet cafe, a young 21-year-old was seen giving out the link of the film to cafegoers, who then sat and watched the near entirety of the film.
The government official said that Singapore would not ask for the film to be removed from online distribution, but has called for its residents to take precaution and understand what it shows about the country.
“It gives the resemblance that Singapore is a place for sex and porn, which is very far from the truth,” added the official.
