JAKARTA: The Indonesia government announced on Tuesday that it would be importing rice from Cambodia. The move means the country is to sign a deal that will see some 100,000 metric tons of rice come from the Southeast Asian country over the next five years, news reports said. Speaking after the opening of the 44th ASEAN economic ministerial meeting by Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday, Indonesia's Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan said his country will also sign an agreement to receive rice from Laos, Vietnam and other countries. The goal of the new deals are to allow Indonesia to strengthen its food resilience and to ensure the county's food security is maintained as the population continues to grow.
