CAIRO: An Iranian lawmaker has reported that Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi is to visit the country's Bushehr nuclear power plant during his visit to the country later this week. On Monday, local media reported that a senior lawmaker had said Tehran is willing to deliver its nuclear power knowledge to the Egyptian government. It comes as Iran continues to push for a return to diplomatic relations with Egypt after nearly three decades of stalemate following the Iranian revolution in 1979 and Egypt's peace treaty with Israel. Morsi is to spend around four hours in the country during his stopover on August 30, Egypt's state-run MENA news agency reported. Iran and Egypt can do “joint activities in the nuclear field and Iran is ready to transfer its know-how and experience to Egypt,” Mansour Haqiqatpour, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars news agency. Iran, which is taking over the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) this week from Egypt, has been pushing its nuclear program and giving delegates a glimpse of their efforts for what it continues to say is a peaceful program. He maintained that “the Iranian nation and government care about Egypt as an Islamic state and want Egypt to be a glorious country in international circles, so Egypt's president can visit all Iranian nuclear centers,” according to the Fars report. Morsi has said his government has no intention of resuming full diplomatic relations with Iran at the present time.
