ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopia has arrested Editor-in-chief Temesgen Desalegn in the latest crackdown on media in the country, local news reports said. It is unclear what charges have been brought against him, if any, but he now joins a growing list of reporters and those critical of the government. According to a Awramba Times report, the editor was transferred to the well-known Kaliti jail on Thursday afternoon following a short hearing in the capital, Addis Ababa, where the presiding judge denied bail for Desalegn. International human rights and media watchdog groups have called on the Ethiopian government to end reprisals against journalists for their writing, but the government, which had cracked down on reports referring to now late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's health, have been unyielding in their attacks on the media.
