KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's badminton number one Lee Chong Wei on Sunday received RM500,000 for his silver medal at the London Olympics. The reward was presented by Prime Minister Najib Razak in a ceremony at the Seri Perdana, the Bernama news agency reported. The reward consisted of RM300,000 from the National Sports Council's Incentive Scheme and RM200,000 from the Malaysian government. Lee also received a watch presented by Razak's wife, who is also the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) patron. She was in London for the gold medal match, which Lee fell just short of earning. Malaysia has never won a gold medal at the Olympics. In a short speech, the Prime Minister congratulated the shuttler on his success in delivering a silver medal and was “confident it would strengthen his resolve to achieve further success in the 2016 Brazil Olympics.” Lee had previously stated he would retire following the London Games, but his future now is uncertain.
