CAIRO and KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said in a statement that Egypt's new President Mohamed Morsi “supports” Malaysia's efforts to assist in Egypt's transition and democracy-building efforts. Khaled, acting as Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's special envoy to give congratulations to Morsi said after meeting with the President on Sunday that he is optimistic about Egypt and Malaysia's relations going forward. He said at the meeting, Morsi was “very pleased and thanked the Prime Minister and all Malaysians for the congratulatory message. “The president also asked that I return to Egypt and meet up with the country's Higher Education Minister to bring bilateral ties to a higher level once Egypt's new cabinet was formed,” he told Bernama news agency. The minister and Morsi met in Cairo on Sunday. Khaled said the Egyptian President also “expressed the hope that bilateral ties between Malaysia could be brought to greater heights in the interest of Muslims worldwide.”
