KUALA LUMPUR: Despite a vast array of sites, beaches, mountains and other natural wonders, Indonesia remains far behind its Southeast Asian neighbors in terms of international travelers. But according to the Indonesian statistics bureau on Monday, the country saw a rise of 8.45 percent from foreign travelers to the country in May. The capital, Jakarta, also saw an increase from the previous month, but the once popular tourist resort area of Bali saw a decline in visitors, largely due to the fear of violence, said the report. The government has recently announced it would be pushing an international campaign to attract tourists to the country, despite the ongoing fear of attacks in the country. Last month, an Australia girl was abducted and sexually assaulted in the country, which has left many looking for other destinations for their holidays.
