CAIRO: Results in Egypt's presidential run-off, completed on Sunday, could be delayed as the election committee responsible for counting the ballots said they were reviewing appeals by both candidates. Both candidates, Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi and military strongman and former President Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, have claimed victory in the election. “We cannot announce when exactly the timing of the announcement of the election results will be because now we are at the stage of listening to the representatives,” said Committee Secretary-General Hatem Bagato. “The committee will meet afterwards to decide on whether to accept the appeals or not. After that there will be a time set to announce the final result,” he added. A delay will likely boost tension in the country, which has skyrocketed since the military council ruling the country seemingly took complete power of the country over last weekend through a court ruling and a constitutional declaration that gives it full legislative power and authority over drafting a new constitution. Egyptians on Tuesday flocked to Tahrir Square to celebrate Morsi's victory, but also spoke out and chanted against the military junta.
