DUBAI: After Iranian citizens were executed in Saudi Arabia recently, Tehran has not invited Riyadh to a summit of the non-aligned movement scheduled for late August. The snub continues the ongoing battle between the two countries, which are currently at head over oil production and the conflict in Syria. Iranian State TV reported on Thursday that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's decision followed the recent execution of a group of Iranian nationals convicted of drug trafficking in the kingdom. The report says an Iranian official cancelled his trip to Saudi Arabia during which he was to hand over the invitation. The decision could affect plans by other Arab and Muslim countries to attend the summit in late August. Iran this week condemned Saudi Arabia over the executions, saying the Iranians didn't receive a fair trial five years ago. It warned the case would have “legal and political consequences.” Saudi officials have also accused Iran of sending weapons to Syria's Bashar al-Assad, which has killed over 14,000 civilians in an uprising that began in March 2011.
