SANA'A: Commander of the air force, General Mohamed Saleh al-Ahmar, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's half-brother, eventually agreed to step down from his position after having refused to comply with President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi's decree for three weeks, prompting international outcries. Special UN envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar, who arrived last week to the capital, Sana'a to discuss with politicians and officials the current situation and ensure that the GCC brokered initiative is respected, warned that the general was facing severe sanctions by refusing to comply with a direct presidential order. Benomar announced on Tuesday that the general had handed his duties over to his successor.
