CAIRO: Condemnations by Leftists and non-Islamist political parties continued as Nabil Zaki, the official spokesman of the leftist Al Taggamu` Party lashed out the decision of the parliament, which opted to elect 50 per cent of the members of the Constituent Assembly to draft the new constitution from within the parliament allocating 50 per cent for MPs and the rest for public figures. Zaki considered this a deal between the Islamic political forces in the parliament represented by the Muslim Brotherhood's political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) and the ultra-conservative Salafist Nour Party, to monopolize the process of drafting the constitution, saying that the constitution would not represent the whole nation. The spokesman added that Al Taggamu` Party decided to withdraw from anything to do with the Constituent Assembly in response to the obvious secret deal between the FJP and Nour.. He stressed that this would lead to sham and phony representation of the liberals and Leftists in the Constituent Assembly, and would lead to an absurd process full of travesty far from being a constitution that fulfills the conception of a civil state. On the other hand, Abdel-Ghaffar Shukr, the leader of the Socialist People's Alliance Party said that the selection of the members of the Constituent Assembly and the option approved by the parliament increases the influence of Islamists in drafting the new Egyptian Constitution, which crystallizes the lack of justice in the drafting of the Constitution and threatens to be unconstitutional. He said that this gives more influence to the legislative authority and would impact the executive and judiciary authorities in Egypt, which may cause many problems, especially regarding the status of the Constitution.
