FIFA to investigate “unusual” Bahrain 10-0 win

MUMBAI: The world football government body FIFA said over the weekend it would investigate the recent match that saw Bahrain beat Indonesia 10-0 in a World Cup qualifier.
FIFA said in a statement that it is “proceeding with this investigation as a priority” from security division offices in Jordan and Malaysia.
FIFA investigators will be “interviewing some team players and coaching staff, the referees and other match officers.”
Lebanese referee Andre el-Haddad sent off Indonesia's goalkeeper in the second minute and awarded Bahrain four penalties.
FIFA added that it is to study the betting activity on the February 29 match in Bahrain's capital, Manama.
The win raised suspicion because Bahrain trailed Qatar by three points and nine goals in group standings. Qatar drew 2-2 in Iran to advance to a draw conducted Friday.
Bahrain was eliminated from the World Cup.
