BANGKOK (dpa): A fire at a Bangkok hotel left one foreign tourist dead and 22 other people injured, police said Friday. The fire broke out at 9:40 pm (1440 GMT) Thursday at the Grand Park Avenue Hotel near the city centre's Sukhumvit Road. “The victim was most likely a Russian national,” Police Colonel Rattasak Raksalam said. She died at Kwai Nam Thai Hospital early Friday from smoke inhalation, he said. Another 22 tourists were injured, mostly Russians, Rattasak said. Most suffered smoke inhalation and were released from hospital Friday morning. A team from the Police Scientific Crime Detection Division was sent to the hotel early Friday to determine the cause of the fire, which reportedly started in a seminar room on the fifth floor. “If the fire was caused by human error, we will press charges against the owners of the hotel,” Rattasak said.
