CAIRO: Egypt and Norway have agreed on backing the Arab initiative to solve the Syrian crisis peacefully in order to prevent bloodshed and protect the national unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian nation. This came during a meeting held by Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Store, who is currently visiting Egypt as part of a regional tour that includes stops in the Palestinian territories, Morocco and Tunisia as well as Israel. Talks covered Egypt's efforts to settle the Syrian crisis, including its participation in all initiatives and Arab meetings aiming at putting an end to violence and bloodletting and protecting Syria's interests, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Amr Roshdi told Bikyamasr.com. Concerning the Palestinian file, Amr blamed the Israeli settlement activities for stalling the regional peace process. The settlements are a major hindrance to negotiations to reach permanent and just peace in the Middle East, Amr said, asserting Egypt's full support for the Palestinian national reconciliation and the formation of a Palestinian national unity government. Talks also tackled the situation in Libya and Egyptian efforts to assist in its reconstruction process as well as endeavors to settle outstanding problems between Sudan and South Sudan.
