Manila (dpa) – Five male students and a female former student of a Philippine state university on Monday had their heads shaved in protest against alleged corruption in the school's student council. The protest was held inside the campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, whose student council is accused of corruption after an audit report found that 4.3 million pesos (102,380 dollars) in funds were unaccounted for since 2006. “This is an expose against corruption in the student council,” said Emil Samaniego, a spokesman for the organizers of the protest. “We want people to take notice and to investigate this matter.” Samaniego said the university's administration and student council have so far not issued any statements about the allegations, which were based on a report by the Commission on Audit.
