CAIRO: Hundreds of Egyptians and Syrians came together on Friday afternoon, marching from central Cairo's Tahrir Square to the Syrian Embassy in the Garden City neighborhood, where they chanted against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and their ambassador to Egypt. The protesters condemned Russia and China's veto of a draft resolution against Damascus and lashed out at Lebanon's Hezbollah's support for Assad. The demonstrators condemned the massacres committed by the Syrian security forces against unarmed civilians, and chanted slogans against the regime of President Assad, calling for his immediate ouster and prosecution for crimes of genocide committed against the Syrian people. They also chanted slogans saluting the martyrs of the Syrian revolution, carrying the Egyptian, Syrian and Palestinian flags as they marched towards the Syrian Embassy, where they were joined by a number of other protesters from the Syrian community in Egypt and some members of the Syrian opposition, chanting again against Russia and China due to their continued use of vetoes against UN draft resolutions to condemn the Syrian regime's fierce crackdown on the massive peaceful protests against the regime. They also called for the expulsion of the Syrian Ambassador from Cairo, and that the embassy be closed. The protesters also chanted against the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, accusing him of supporting the Syrian regime in its crimes against the Syrian population. The General Assembly of the United Nations agreed on Thursday on a resolution condemning Syria, and called for the implementation of the Arab League plan to end the bloodshed in Syria within 15 days. The resolution was approved by 137 members and rejected by 12, while 17 members abstained from voting. Russia and China were among the countries that voted against the resolution.
