CAIRO: Bahrain authorities deported 6 Americans from the country for allegedly lying on their visa application forms. Bahraini immigration said Tuesday in a statement that the Americans provided false information on the forms to obtain a tourist visa and stay in the country. They said they were visiting for touristic purposes, “but participated in a protest last week.” Kate Rafael Beder, Christen Razowiski, Patricia Weland, Micheal Antony Lopersio, Brain David Tril and Linda Sartor broke their visa requirement by participating in the ongoing protests in the country. Bahrain has witnessed protests by the Shia majority against the rule of the Sunni minority, backed by Sunni Saudi Arabia, and have been demanding equal rights and freedoms since February 14, 2011. The 6 Americans signed the forms saying they were there for touristic reasons and the Bahrain immigration law allows police to deport any visitor who breaks these regulations and takes part in any protest or political event in the country. The 6 were arrested following their alleged participation, but no charges were filed against them as they agreed to leave. An official from the Bahrain immigration warned visitors that they will be legally held responsible if they take part in any demonstration or protest.
