CAIRO: Following a four hour meeting between Egypt's parliament members and a Coptic Christian group, it was decided that the human rights committee will investigate the forced evictions of several Coptic families from their homes in the al-Ameriyah area of Alexandria. Members from the Maspero Youth Union, a Coptic Christian rights organization, the Free Copts group and the Coptic Association marched from Abdel Moneim Riad Square to the Egyptian Parliament on Sunday afternoon, demanding a serious investigation into the forced evictions of Coptic families in Alexandria. The delegation met with MPs and discussed the facts surrounding the case and studied the legality of the forced relocation. The case dates back to an alleged affair between a Muslim woman and a Coptic man, which resulted in violent acts against the Christians living in the village, where many homes and stores were partially burned and robbed, and later a non-official “elders” of the village decision was passed, demanding the Copts must leave and their property will be sold. Coptic movements and the human rights community as a whole in Egypt has been in an uproar over the forced evictions, which they called a “crime against humanity.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Pj9gr Tags: Christian, Coptic, Evictions, featured, Parliament Section: Egypt, Latest News, Religion
