CAIRO: The administrator of the official Facebook page of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) posted a message on Thursday dedicated to the American University in Cairo (AUC), questioning the university about its role in the country. The page questioned that AUC was “one of the tools” used by the American government its security forces “in toppling and destabilizing Egypt.” The administrator of the page linked in the message to the role of AUC in “supporting and calling for Civil disobedience on February 11,” which also marks the anniversary of the ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak. It questioned the university on how it presents itself “strongly these days,” and about “the role of AUC in spreading the message for the civil obedience, while using Egyptians to implement this scheme.” It was referring to Egyptian students and professors of AUC who have announced their participation in the general strike. The message said that “these professors started the process of systematic and deliberate mobilization and selected at least 40 students to implement a destructive scheme against Egypt, through increasing tension between the students and military.” It continued to say that “AUC implements its scheme through promoting the campaign Kazeboon {military liars), and selecting public figures such as the prominent activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, and the sister of the prominent icon of the revolution and victim of torture in Egypt, Khaled Said, in order to mobilize students at seminars held by AUC to raise awareness and advocacy, mobilization for civil disobedience, and creating a group on Facebook and sending SMS messages to students to mobilize for the strike.” “Freedom of speech and demonstrations is guaranteed for everyone, when it comes within the framework of public good and without damage, or unknown goals and purposes clear to everyone,” the message directed to AUC added. “We continue to reiterate that the strategic relations with Egypt, after the revolution will only be in the framework of mutual interests and Egypt will not be blackmailed or humiliated. Whoever wants our friendship according to our customs and traditions, is most welcome,” the message added. The page titled “the admin of the official page for SCAF” is not an official page, but its administrator is in charge of editing and updating the SCAF`s official page on Facebook.
