Amman (dpa) – Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met at the Red Sea Port of Aqaba Saturday to assess the prospects of resuming exploratory Palestinian-Israeli talks, according to a royal court statement. The two leaders met to ”evaluate the exploratory talks between Palestinian and Israeli negotiators” hosted by Jordan from January 4, in light of efforts by the monarch to break a deadlock since the talks were suspended 10 days ago. King Abdullah and Abbas also reviewed the outcome of a trip to the region this week by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who visited Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories in an attempt to push forward the stalled peace talks. During his visit, Ban urged both parties to return to the negotiating table with a view to accomplishing a two-state solution. Abbas briefed the Jordanian leader on the Palestinians' future movements, the court statement said. The two leaders met ahead of a meeting by an Arab League panel originally scheduled in Cairo on Saturday to evaluate the outcome of the Amman exploratory talks between the Palestinians and Israel. The meeting has since been postponed to February 11. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Ryab6 Tags: Abbas, Abdallah, peace, Talks Section: Jordan, Latest News, Palestine
