CAIRO: The recently appointed Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, Yaakov Amitai, left Cairo for Tel Aviv on Thursday to spend time with his family, as he did not want to spend the upcoming anniversary of the January 25 Revolution in Egypt, fearing potential unrest on the day. This is the fourth time that Amitai has left Cairo since he was appointed to his post on December 14, when he replaced predecessor Yitzhak Levanon. If celebrations of the anniversary of the revolution are peaceful, Amitai will return to Cairo. The Israeli Embassy has been closed since it was raided by protesters in September who were angry over Israel's accidental killing of six Egyptian border police while chasing Palestinian militants across the Egypt-Israel border. The embassy has not yet been relocated. Officials at Cairo International Airport confirmed that Amitai flew to Tel Aviv, along with eight other Israeli embassy employees.
