Bangkok (dpa) – Residents living below a massive hydroelectric dam in Thailand were urged not to panic over a psychic's prediction 37 years ago that the dam would burst this New Year's Eve, a news report said Friday. Bhumibol Dam in Tak province, 382 kilometers north of Bangkok, was in good shape, Mineral Resources Department Director General Nithad Phupatanakul was quoted as saying by The Bangkok Post. “The dam is not located along any fault line, so it is impossible that it will be broken by an earthquake,” he said. The apocalyptic prediction was made by a child psychic named Pla Bu, who said the dam would collapse about 10 pm (1500 GMT) on December 31, 2011. If it happens, downstream provinces, including Bangkok, would be inundated and many people would be killed, the paper said. Tak Governor Samart Loifa said many worried people have been calling him about the dam. To reassure them, he said, he would preside over a countdown party at the dam beginning at 7 pm Saturday.
