Los Angeles (dpa) – Ballots for the 84th annual Oscars were sent out Tuesday to 5,783 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the film academy announced. Members have until January 13 to return their votes, giving accountants 11 days to tally the totals before the nominations are announced on January 24. Early favorites for the 2011 Oscars include silent-movie tribute The Artist, George Clooney's family drama The Descendants and Martin Scorsese's 3D adventure Hugo. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on February 26 at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre and televised live in more than 225 countries.
