Polling centers opened in Egypt on Thursday, the second day of the second phase of the Egyptian People's Assembly elections. About 18.7 million voters are eligible to cast ballots. The second phase of elections is held in nine governorates, Giza, Ismailia, Sohag, Beni Suef, Suez, Aswan, Biheira, Menoufia and Sharkia. At this phase candidates and parties are vying on 180 seats; 120 seats for parties' lists and 60 seats for individual candidates. Thirty three parties are competing on 120 seats and hundreds of independent candidates are vying on 60 individual seats in the parliament. The Peoples' Assembly consists of 508 members, ten of them are appointed. The three phases of elections would end on 11 January 2012. Voters should choose one party list and two individual candidates in each constituency.
