CAIRO: Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that 110,000 Egyptians abroad are expected to mail in their voting cards, out of the 169,000 who registered to vote. Egyptian nationals living abroad are expected to print off their ballots and mail the cards to Egyptian authorities, or otherwise deliver their votes to their nearest Egyptian embassy by hand. Egyptian voters from 163 countries cast their votes two days ago, as those in Egypt head to polling stations on Monday. The ministry said that embassies aboard are starting to go through the votes today. The results will be delivered in secret so that all results are announced simultaneously. Saudi Arabia came on top of the list of Egyptians voters abroad, with almost 38,000 people casting votes. The United States and Canada had almost 12,000 voters combined, while the UK comes on the list with 2,115 voters and Italy with 3,005 voters. Around 8 million Egyptians are living aboard, however, due to the limited time of voter registration, not all had applied to vote. This is the first election in which Egyptians living abroad can cast a vote, as recent amendments were made to allow them to participate in the country's first free elections after the fall of the former regime.
