CAIRO: The recently resigned Interior Minister Mansour el-Eissawy told Egyptian national television that there have been “no bullets fired” by the country's riot police during the ongoing clashes across the country. Eissawy said the riot police, currently firing a near constant stream of tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition at protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square and in other cities across the country “have not used live ammunition” in the street battles. However, eyewitnesses in the Cairo and elsewhere have confirmed the use of live fire and scores of Egyptian protesters have been killed by gun fire. Death certificates obtained by Bikyamasr.com at the Zeinhom morgue confirm a number of protesters have been shot dead during the clashes. Earlier this week, the ruling military junta claimed that “unknown gunmen” were responsible for the shooting. To date, at least 90 people have been killed in the violence, in Cairo alone, according to medical sources speaking to Bikyamasr.com. Thousands of others have been injured. BM
