Lebanese NGO Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (BETA), celebrated World Animal Day and the World Event to End Animal Cruelty recently amid a festive humane celebration with dogs they had rescued and animal lovers with their companion animals. BETA is the first Lebanese NGO to have started a dog shelter in the country. “This event aimed to take a stand against animal abuse and make the animals' voices heard in Lebanon,” said the NGO in a statement sent to bikyamasr.com The celebration started with a march from Beirut to Manara, with the shelter dogs saved by BETA, and animal lovers and their own dogs and volunteers held banners calling for mercy to animals. The group wanted to raise public awareness of how stray animals are abused on the streets. BM
